Policy 604.05E1 Technology and Instructional Materials One-to-One Digital Device Adoption Checklist
Prior to adopting or renewing any one-to-one digital device program, the Board will consider all of the following when making programming decisions:
-
The instructional purpose of the device
-
The instructional purpose of a device is to introduce, reinforce, and practice educational concepts while fostering interactive and self-paced learning. Using such devices builds foundational technology and problem-solving skills necessary for modern workplaces.
-
-
The age appropriateness of the device and associated software
-
We use vetted programs and software to ensure the age appropriateness and relevance of the material the students are using.
-
-
Content filtering limitations and the district’s capacity to mitigate those limitations
-
We use content filters to restrict the exposure of non-school-appropriate content. We also filter the content through the firewall as a first line of defense.
-
-
Whether student data is collected, stored, or shared and the nature of such data practices.
-
Student data can be collected and shared, if there is a determined legitimate need.
-
The Board delegates to the Superintendent or its designees the responsibility to bring forth a recommendation on the use of one-to-one instructional technology. The district maintains this checklist in its records for the purpose of compliance with Iowa Department of Education audit requests.
